Influence of twin-screw elements on dispersion of nano-clay in vinyl ester polymer composites using Taguchi’s orthogonal array technique

Abstract This work aims to experimentally investigate the influence of screw elements on dispersion Cloisite-15A in vinyl ester based design experiments using MINITAB-V16 software. Experiments were designed considering two main factors such as loading (1, 2, 3, and 4 wt%) type with a varying number kneading (type 1 55 mm, 2 90 elements). The procedure was carried out by combination both ultrasonication then twin-screw extrusion. these tensile strength hardness studied an experimental layout possessing Taguchi’s L 8 Orthogonal Array technique. ANOVA results revealed proved be better when processed having more screws. S/N ratio study showed that had greatest impact screw's values for Cloisite-15A/vinyl gel coats treated at 230 rpm 10 passes. probability graphs led conclusion that, 95% confidence interval, all response distributed equally along normal plot's trend. In order achieve best terms mechanical strength, Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) helped identify process variables. known wt% loading, SEM XRD absence agglomeration exfoliation clay loading.
